Project Title: Spotify Sing

Project Background: Spotify founded in 2006, is one of the biggest music streaming platform. It allows users to browse musics and videos, create playlist to share  with friends, and access to over 30 million songs.

Spotify is constantly introducing  new features  to improve music streaming experience .

Project Brief: Goal of this project is to look at what Spotify does socially by explore  and understand the ways that people relate to music, and use those findings and insights to improve the product and user experience. Introduce a new Spotify social feature that would increase engagement of product and it’s users.

Define- Understanding the problem. How do people relate to music and how to improve social sharing of spotify.

Research- Research of the project will be focus on how people relate to music and music sharing, and to explore how to increase social sharing of Spotify.

Key points:

Identify user trend

Understand what platforms people use for music streaming and sharing.

Understand user habit and behavior of social sharing.

Discover insights

What are some challenges and frustrations people have for their current music streaming and sharing platforms.

What can be improved and deliver?

Based on research findings, propose solution with new feature and its functionality.

Competitive analysis –to understand other music streaming and sharing platforms.

Online survey –to understand user music sharing habit in a greater scale.

Conduct competitive analysis on Spotify’s current feature to two other singing app Smule and Yokee.

Finding-

Spotify currently does not have voice recording, video editing and video sharing features, which are essential to creating a singing app. It also lack of user communication feature such as chat room and comments section

Research questions to learn how people share music and to discover insight of people’s music sharing habit and behavior in order to explore opportunities to increase social sharing of Spotify.

Finding- People Spent a good amount of time streaming music in day. Most users share music publicly and privately through social media and text.

Spotify Sing -Preference test

Karaoke icon here represents the song that is playing is available in karaoke version, and by clicking on the icon you will be prompted to the singing screen. I place the icons in two different places (near song name & top left corner of album) and would like to know where do users prefer the icon to be?

Results show that most of the users prefer the icon to be near the song name due to easier to see.
